Miniature donkeys are wonderful farm buddies.  Friendly and affectionate, they can be taught to drive and pull a cart or just accompany you around the barn for chores.  They love a scratch behind the ears any time of the day. 

A Christmas legend tells of the Mother Mary riding a donkey on her Christmas Eve journey.  She was expecting the Baby Jesus, and could find no room at the inn.  She found shelter in a stable, along with her donkey, and ever since, every donkey has the special blessing of the cross of Christ across their shoulders.
